What is tooth whitening?
Tooth colour can be effectively lightened using specifically formulated Hydrogen Peroxide (bleach).
In practice this is completely safe as long as the bleach does not touch your gums. According to current regulations, tooth whitening should only be available to patients following a dental examination and the treatment should be supervised by a dentist.
How does tooth whitening work?
Your dentist will make a mould of your mouth, so a tray can be made to fit the inside of your mouth perfectly. At the next appointment they will check the tray fits. You will be provided with the whitening solution and shown how to use the trays at home.
The tray will ensure the solution does not damage your gums. You will need to use the tray for a few hours on several occasions, as instructed by your dentist.
